Creating Your Character
Step-by-step guide to building your first character in The Raven's Perch.
Opening the character creator
From your dashboard, tap Characters in the bottom nav, then tap Create New Character. The creator walks you through five steps.
Step 1: Choose a race
Your race determines your base ability score bonuses and some innate traits. All nine races from the D&D 5e System Reference Document (SRD) are available:
Human — +1 to all six ability scores. The most versatile choice.
Elf — +2 DEX. Darkvision, immunity to sleep magic, proficiency in Perception.
Dwarf — +2 CON. Darkvision, resistance to poison, proficiency with axes and hammers.
Halfling — +2 DEX. Lucky (reroll 1s on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws), Brave (advantage against being frightened).
Dragonborn — +2 STR, +1 CHA. Breath weapon and damage resistance based on your draconic ancestry.
Gnome — +2 INT. Darkvision, advantage on mental saving throws against magic.
Half-Elf — +2 CHA, +1 to two other scores of your choice. Darkvision, advantage against charm, two skill proficiencies.
Half-Orc — +2 STR, +1 CON. Darkvision, proficiency in Intimidation, Relentless Endurance (drop to 1 HP instead of 0 once per long rest).
Tiefling — +2 CHA, +1 INT. Darkvision, resistance to fire, innate spellcasting that improves as you level.
Step 2: Choose a class
Your class determines your hit points, proficiencies, and special abilities. See the Classes article for the full list. Your class also determines your primary ability score — put your highest roll there.
Step 3: Roll ability scores
The creator rolls four six-sided dice and drops the lowest for each of the six ability scores, giving you a set of numbers to assign. Assign them to STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, and CHA in any order. Put your highest score in your class's primary ability.

Step 4: Choose a background
Backgrounds give you two skill proficiencies, tool or language proficiencies, and some starting equipment. Common backgrounds include Soldier, Criminal, Sage, Acolyte, and Folk Hero.
Step 5: Choose a name and finalize
Give your character a name, then review your final stat block. Tap Save Character — your character is stored and immediately available for campaigns.
After creation
Your character sheet tracks HP, spell slots, conditions, inventory, XP, and currency. The Raven reads it automatically and applies all rules without you having to quote them.
