Your First Session
What to expect when you sit down to play — how sessions work and how to talk to The Raven.
Starting a session
From your dashboard, open a campaign and tap Start Session. The Raven sets the scene — where your character is, what's happening, and what you can see. Read it, then respond.
How to talk to The Raven
Type in plain English. You don't need to use any special syntax. Just say what your character does:
- "I look around the room for hidden doors."
- "I draw my sword and attack the goblin."
- "I try to convince the guard to let us through."
The Raven interprets your intent, calls the appropriate game rules behind the scenes, and narrates the result. If a dice roll is required (ability check, attack roll, saving throw), The Raven rolls it for you and tells you the outcome.
Exploration
When you're exploring, The Raven describes what your character perceives. You can ask questions, examine objects, talk to NPCs, move between locations, and make decisions. The Raven tracks the world state and remembers what has happened.
Passive Perception (10 + your Wisdom modifier + proficiency if proficient) is checked automatically against hidden threats as you move.
Combat
When combat starts, The Raven rolls initiative for everyone — you and all enemies. You'll see the turn order and your character's position.
On your turn, you have:
- One action — attack, cast a spell, dash, disengage, dodge, help, hide, use an object
- One bonus action — if your class or a spell gives you one
- One reaction — used on another creature's turn (opportunity attacks, certain spells)
- Movement — up to your speed in feet
Say what you want to do. The Raven handles the mechanics. When enemies act, it narrates their attacks and applies any damage or conditions to your character automatically.
Resting
Between encounters, you can take a short rest (1 hour) to spend Hit Dice and recover HP. A long rest (8 hours) restores all HP and resets most class resources. Just tell The Raven you want to rest.
Ending a session
Say "I want to end the session" or use the End Session button. The Raven writes a brief summary of what happened, and all progress — XP, items, HP — is saved to your character sheet automatically.
